Wolverhampton's Wayne Jones made it to the last 16 of the last stand of the PDC Players Championship to seal his place in the televised finals in two weeks time.

'The Wanderer' will be among the participants at the Doncaster Dome after upping his game yesterday afternoon, before bowing out 5-1 to a rampant Phil Taylor in the fourth round.

Taylor won both the Saturday and Sunday sessions at the Robin Park Centre in Wigan, where Jones beat Mareno Michels 6-1 on the first day before losing 6-2 to Dennis Smith.

But yesterday Jones flew out of the traps to pip Steve Hine to a 6-5 victory, then thrashing Michael Barnard 6-1 before another emphatic win, 6-2 over Jamie Caven.

Taylor put the skids on his charge after that but Jones' work was done, with his spot confirmed in the last televised tournament, before the big one, the PDC World Championships in mid-December.

Jones stands 31st in the PDC Players Championship Order of Merit.
