Webster positive despite loss

It may be difficult to spot the positives from a run of three straight losses with an away trip to a top three side next up, but Wolverhampton coach Quentin Webster thinks he has found one.

His side will have 14 days to prepare for Stoke, a game he believes can transform the club's stalling Midlands Three West North campaign.

Naivety and misfortune have cost his young side on separate occasions this season and it was a mixture of both which allowed their relegation-threatened bogey side Shrewsbury to leave Castlecroft with the points on Saturday after winning 5-3.

Webster said: "It was unexpected but we can have no complaints. They played the conditions better than us but I also felt we played into their hands a little bit. We did not show enough know-how at times, like coming back on the angle against their drift defence.

"That is something we should have realised and started doing early on - but we did not.

"We have to go now to Stoke, who are a good side, and turn it around.

"It is not a good feeling in the camp at the moment but it was at the start of the season and we have to get that back. We have 14 days to prepare and can go there with nothing to lose.

"We are a much better side than our results suggest."

A solitary Jason Gillie penalty is all the Castlecroft side had to show for their effort.

Despite several attempts missing, including one in the last minute that fell short, Webster's demeanour suggested that his side did not do enough to deserve the victory.

He added: "We have spoken before about mental toughness and that is something we need to address again. We need to get into the habit of not only winning, but also have the mentality to win well."
