Singer Sir Elton John has achieved his ninth UK number one album with Diamonds, a greatest hits compilation, the Official Charts Company has confirmed.

The record had previously been in the charts for 374 weeks since its release in 2017, eventually reaching the summit after limited edition releases on new formats, including cassette for the first time.

The 77-year-old’s most recent compilation debuted at number five in its opening week back in 2017, and has not left the UK albums chart top 100 since its release, boasting more weeks on the chart than any other Sir Elton album.

He told Official Charts Company: “I’m so happy to have a UK Number 1 album with Diamonds.

“It came out in 2017, which feels like a lifetime ago. This is the first time it’s topped the charts since its release. I’m blessed that so many incredible things have happened with my career during that time.

“I’m overjoyed and want to sincerely thank all my incredible fans for their constant love and support.”

On Instagram, he also teased there was “new music coming in 2025”.

Diamonds joins Don’t Shoot Me I’m Only The Piano Player (1973), Goodbye Yellow Brick Road (1973), Caribou (1974), Elton John’s Greatest Hits (1974), Sleeping With The Past (1989), The Very Best Of Elton John (1990), collaborative PNAU record Good Morning To The Night (2012) and The Lockdown Sessions (2021) in the list of the singer’s number one albums.

The compilation is also number one on this week’s Official Vinyl Albums Chart and Official Record Store Chart.

The albums chart top five was completed by Sabrina Carpenter’s Short N’ Sweet (two), SZA’s SOS (three), Ed Sheeran’s +–=÷× (Tour Collection) (four), and The Weeknd’s The Highlights (five).

Gracie Abrams’ That’s So True remained at the top of the UK singles chart, making it seven non-consecutive weeks at the peak for the track.

Rose and Bruno Mars’s Apt (two), Lola Young’s Messy (three), Gigi Perez’s Sailor Song (four) and BTS singer Jimin’s Who (five) completed the top five on the UK singles chart.

Rising US rapper Doechii earned her first UK top 40 single this week, with Denial Is A River from 2024 mixtape Alligator Bites Never Heal reaching number 39.

Chappell Roan’s Pink Pony Club has also re-entered the top 40 at 22 after she was named the BBC’s Sound Of 2025.
