Thousands of fans packed into Wolverhampton Civic Hall yesterday for the first day of this year's money-spinning tournament.

And many dressed to impress - with a host of bright and brilliant costumes created to get the party started.

Many were in fancy dress and waved comedy placards urging on the stars or just trying to get themselves spotted on live TV or by the Express & Star's photographer Jamie Ricketts.

The Grand Slam of Darts sees 32 stars of the sport, including players from both the PDC and BDO codes, converge on the Wolves Civic to compete for £400,000 in prize money and the coveted title.

The action continues through to next Sunday.
