LETTER: Wolves boss Nuno has given faith back to supporters
A reader discusses Wolves.
As a Wolves supporter of over 40 years, I have never felt so connected to my club, since Nuno Espírito Santo took over. I have shared the experience with my now 15 year old daughter and we have had some truly wonderful experiences at home matches, on away journeys and on the sofa. He has reestablished a community, a philosophy, an identity and has given faith back to supporters. New generations, such as my daughter have been offered a delight in watching simply wonderful football in the Premier League, Europe and even at Wembley.
I thought my love and respect for Nuno had reached its peak and then I read in the Express & Star (28/01/2021) that he has donated £250,000 of his own money to the Wolves Foundation project ‘Feed the Pack’ project. The money will go towards helping feed school children during the pandemic. If anyone out there questioned his commitment to our club and our city, then take some time to read up on the article. He talks about his struggles through Covid and lock down, but you can clearly see by his generous donation and his words that he has a huge spirit and affection for our city and our local community.
He also needs support now more than ever. He is isolated away from his family, with no fans energising his dreams and with a team that has been impacted with injuries.
Rather than backing him with support, lots of supporters are panicking and calling for him to be sacked. Saddened to read some of these comments. I cannot understand how supporters can fail to support and be loyal to someone who has transformed our club, community, team and given us new hopes and dreams.
Success is not just built on numbers and data. It’s deeper than that. It’s about community spirit and values. That is what the beautiful game was historically rooted in. I am so privileged to support the team I was born, raised In and live by. It is for life. That’s why teams like ours are special .. and why Nuno Espirito is ‘our’ special one.
