LETTER: Wolves need action now to reverse the recent decline

I am a Wolves fan of over 65 years and a season ticket holder, being a Wulfrunian currently resident in Scotland. When Fosun bought our club i was sceptical but was won over by their investment and success in winning promotion to the Premier League, securing two top seven finishes and an absorbing Europa League campaign.

However, this season the management have made some mistakes. "Clubs with ambition do not sell their better players". I can recall Wolves management of earlier seasons letting fans down and would cite the sales of Keane to Coventry and Lescott to Everton as examples. I thought Fosun were different until we sold Doherty to Spurs and Jota to Liverpool, unnecessarily which unsettled the team. This was compounded when our coach changed our system of a back five (hallmark of our previous defensive success) to a back four which clearly hasn't worked. Doherty's expensive replacement as yet to show an improvement and Jota at least knew where the goal was!

Obviously we over-achieved in the previous two seasons with such a small squad being lucky with very few injuries. That luck has run out and there is no sign the club will move for an experienced striker capable of standing in for Jimenez and converting the numerous crosses from Neto and Traore. I suggest we need to sign a younger midfield player to eventually replace our veteran maestro, Moutinho (possibly Cantwell of Norwich). We should also refocus transfer and academy policy post-Brexit by developing more British players.

I am perplexed by some of Nuno's substitutions recently, further unsettling the side. Nuno has done a wonderful job over the three previous seasons but we have won just five points from the last nine league games, which is "relegation form" as we slip perilously close to that zone. So action is needed now to reverse this decline.
