Can't honestly understand all the praise for Amandaland, the BBC comedy spin-off from Motherland. It's okay but it's no more than okay.
I do miss the old characters of Liz (Diane Morgan) as the authentic voice of streetwise coping and Julia (Anna Maxwell Martin) who does frazzled-mum better than any other actor I can think of. Amandaland? It's Motherlandlite.
The issue of Britain paying reparations to the Caribbean for the slave trade arises again with talks reportedly being arranged by the Foreign Office (which naturally denies it all). The bad news is that some countries are demanding trillions of pounds from us. However, given the UK's track record for dragging public inquiries out for decades, the whole issue may vanish into the long grass.
