Peter Rhodes on air-rage, airliner doors and the funnier side of growing old
Over recent years the number of air-rage incidents has nearly tripled. MPs are debating whether to change the law to get a grip on the problem.
But do we need new laws? What's wrong with a) simply enforcing the current rules and b) preventing passengers getting utterly bladdered before they take off? If we can test queues for Covid with a quick scan of a digital thermometer, can't we ask air passengers to blow in a breathalyser to prove they are sober enough to fly?
If you think that's a tad draconian, you've probably never been at 30,000 feet with a load of drunks. I have. It was infuriating, shaming, terrifying.
