Opinion: Service as usual as summer provides storms, strikes and tennis
Sunshine, thunderstorms, superstar concerts and community shows can only mean one thing... summer is finally here.
The hot spell also means long overdue respite from soaring gas and electric bills, which I’m sure most households will be grateful for while hunting for cheaper suppliers in time for the autumn.
Speaking of seasons, it’s been a bit of a surprise that various long-running pay disputes between the Government and well let’s face it, almost everybody else, are still rumbling on after almost 12 months.
In summer last year the wheels of justice all but rolled to a halt when our already well paid barristers seized upon an opportunity to extract a nice 15 per cent pay rise. Some might say the huge backlog of cases in both family and criminal courts were used as ransom in the dispute that saw judges displeased and trials postponed.
