Playing with a quality and style that has not been seen at Molineux in decades, it is little wonder that the football world has stood up to take notice of Nuno’s terrific team from WV1.

Now with the Championship title safely in the bag, our thoughts turn to how the city of Wolverhampton honours our wonderful Wolves.

Flash back to 2003, when Wolves hammered Sheffield United in the play-off final in Cardiff to give Sir Jack Hayward his dream of Premier League football.

Wolves fans won’t need reminding that it was the first time the club had reached the top flight since the dismal 1982 relegation, which heralded the start of a miserable run that saw them drop into the fourth tier.

It meant that play-off final really was worth celebrating, and Wolverhampton – which had been granted city status three years earlier – did it in style.

Looking back at photographs of the open top bus parade that edged through the city centre, it is hard not to get goosebumps.

On a hot day at the end of May, people came out in their thousands and gave the players and management the credit they so richly deserved for their efforts during the season.

The lap of honour at a packed Molineux will live long in the memory for those who were lucky enough to see it.

It is only right that the current Wolves set up is given similar treatment.

The people of the city must be allowed to honour their heroes in the best possible manner.

And an open top bus parade would be a fantastic way to say ‘thank you’ to those champions in gold and black and the staff, too.

Wolves’ promotion is great for the club and great for the city.

We understand that Wolverhampton council is in talks with Wolves over the promotion celebrations.

We hope that between them they are able to come to a suitable arrangement in due course.

Wolves have been brilliant this season, so let’s give them the send off they deserve as they head into the Premier League.
