Walsall to Birmingham trains 'running normally' again after broken-down freight train blocked line

Trains between Walsall and Birmingham were cancelled this morning because of a broken-down train on the railway.

The freight train broke down between Walsall and Birmingham New Street stations, West Midlands Railway said today. It was reported at 6am.

Rail replacement buses were ordered and customers with tickets were able to use them for National Express buses between Walsall and Birmingham.

West Midlands Railway said: "Due to a broken-down train between Birmingham New Street and Walsall all lines are blocked.

"Train services running through these stations have been cancelled."

An update at about 8.30am said the train had been recovered, and that services would recover over the course of the morning.

By 10.20am, trains were reported to be running normally again.
