Call for action at ‘killer junction’ amid fears for people’s safety
Drivers are calling for action at a "killer junction" in the Black Country – which they claim is unsafe and could lead to motorists bring seriously hurt or killed.
The junction on Birmingham Road in Great Barr allows drivers to cut across an entire dual carriageway to get to the other side.
Motorists can pull out of Sundial Lane, a side road, and over four lanes of the busy Birmingham Road to get to the opposite side – where a primary school is based.
But despite there being a 40mph speed limit, the road is often busy with fast-moving traffic, and can lead to motorists taking chances.
Abdulhayy Salloo, who works at Great Barr Muslim Foundation, said it was "shocking" and "disappointing" that nothing had been done to make the area safer.
He said: "So often I see remains of damaged cars there. I, myself got hit there at the beginning of this year.
Shocking
"The residents and shop owners in that location also mentioned that there's always an incident happening there.
"It's shocking and disappointing that nothing has been done about that junction at all!
"Are the council waiting for someone to get critically injured or even die before doing anything about it?"
He added: "Even a minor accident can be traumatising for people.
"My question is, is there a petition or something we can set up to have some changes made there to make our roads safer?"
Resident John Coffey echoed Mr Salloo's concerns and said: "That has always been a Mickey Mouse killer junction, that central section needs to be closed off, but there is a school on the road off it, the only other routes would be turn right at the Scott Arms and right again across Newton Road, an even bigger nightmare."
Sandwell Council has been approached for comment.
