Cannock car parks in line for £200k revamp

The news comes after it was revealed the town centre multi-storey may not be reopened after it was closed amid concerns over the structure.

The programme of improvements released by Cannock Chase District Council would see work including resurfacing and new signs across 11 of the authority’s 35 car parks.

The scheme and budget of £200,000 will be voted on at a meeting next week.

A report to the meeting states: “For some time now it has been noted that a number of them require capital investment to bring them to a satisfactory standard, in regard to their operation, aesthetic condition and health and safety requirement.

“The existing car parks have not had significant work of this nature undertaken previously.”

An estimated £25,500 will be spent at the Danilo Road car park, in Cannock, along with £24,000 on the Market Street car park, in Rugeley.

Also in Rugeley the Service Area 6 car park is earmarked for £29,000 worth of work and the Service Area 9 car park will see £44,000 of improvements.

At the 5s Sports Pavilion car park, on Bradbury Lane, in Hednesford, work estimated to cost £55,000 will see additional overspill car park spaces added.

On the Girton Road station car park, in Cannock, the replacement of a missing low level trip rail will cost £3,000.

And height restriction barrier replacement at several car parks is estimated to cost £7,500.

Leader of Cannock Council, George Adamson, said: “Car parks across Cannock and Rugeley have shown some wear and tear.

“Many car parks do need urgent work and we promised to do it. I am hoping people will be pleased and will welcome the move to invest money into it.”
