M6 traffic queues sparked by break downs leave hour-long delays
Motorists faced long delays and congestion on the M6 and surrounding routes due to a series of break downs.
A lorry broke down on the busy stretch of the motorway between Great Barr and Spaghetti Junction.
Traffic soon began to build southbound between junctions 7 and 6 from around 6.15am on Monday.
It is thought the lorry was broken down diagonally across two lanes of the motorway on the southbound side.
Severe delays of up to one hour and 40 minutes were reported on the stretch backing traffic into the Black Country.
These eased but queues of an hour with tailbacks stretching around seven miles remained through the rush-hour.
Delays were also exacerbated when a car also broke down on the M6 southbound between J10A for M54 and J10 for Walsall and Wolverhampton.
Motorists faced delays on the A454 Black Country leading from J10 towards Wolverhampton and also the Wolverhampton Road into Walsall.
There were also queues on the A41 Black Country New Road around the Wednesbury Parkway roundabout.
The A4196 Holloway Bank, in Wednesbury, was also busy due to delays in the town.
To compound the congestion, a car transporter broke down on the M6 northbound between J13 for Stafford south and central and J14 for Stafford north.
Two lanes were closed.
Separate delays on Penn Road just outside Wolverhampton city centre were also reported due to roadworks near Goldthorn Hill.
