Two worse for wear cyclists were collared by police officers as they made their way down a busy motorway in Santa hats on Christmas Day..

Traffic officers caught up with the cyclists riding along the M5 Northbound between Junction 6 and Junction 5.

Both cyclists were said to be "rather intoxicated" when they were safely removed from the carriageway by officers from Central Motorway Police Group (CMPG).

One Twitter user took to the platform to condemn the pair, stating: "That is absolutely insane, what the hell were they thinking? Cycling is dangerous enough as it is."

However the pair weren't the only people inappropriately on the motorway after a Christmas Day drink.

CMPG officers tweeted that an 'intoxicated male' walking not far from the cyclists was being 'helped' by firearms officers, while three woman were removed from the M5 after being spotted walking between junctions 1 and 2.
