M6 crash chaos after eight-vehicle pile-up with athletics stars caught in queues
Some of Britain's top athletics stars joined hundreds of motorists stuck in long tailbacks on the M6 after an eight-vehicle crash.
Olympian Martyn Rooney and former 400 metres star Iwan Thomas were among those caught up in queues following the accident.
The crash happened near junction six for the Aston Expressway at Spaghetti Junction at around 6pm.
Delays of at least 45 minutes were reported with queues back past Great Barr and Wednesbury towards Walsall at junction 10.
One patient needed care from paramedics.
It came as thousands of people left Alexander Stadium, in Perry Barr, which had held the British Athletics Team Trials for this year's London World Championships.
Runner Martyn Rooney was among those to tweet pictures showing the queues warning people to avoid the route. Iwan Thomas also tweeted people to warned them of delays.
West Midlands Ambulance Service paramedic operations manager James Williams tweeted to say 'amazingly' there was only patient who needed care after the crash.
