The fee will come in for parking after 3pm on weekdays as part of a six-month pilot scheme in Cannock and Rugeley.
The trial, which was given the go-ahead by a unanimous vote last night at Cannock Chase District Council's cabinet meeting, will run at car parks in Avon Road, Cannock and Forge Road, Rugeley.
The pilot scheme,to run from January to June 30 next year, is set to cost the council £8,000. Council leader George Adamson said he hopes the move will 'attract more people into the town centres'.
