The Poplars Centre, on Little Cottage Street off Venture Way, was closed in October 2024 after Black Country Healthcare moved services to the nearby Brierley Hill Health and Social Care Centre.

The now vacant building will be converted into a light industrial unit to manufacture blinds and awnings.

A report in a planning application for a change of use from Dudley Council planning officers said: “The proposed development would provide additional job opportunities within the area and bring the building back into a viable and suitable use.

“There would be no detrimental impact to amenity and there is sufficient car parking and no expected highways implications.”

Officers also concluded the building is in a predominantly industrial area so there would be no impact on residents and alterations to the exterior of the unit, including the installation of three roller shutter doors, would not be detrimental to its surroundings.

Dudley planners have also been asked to consider a change of use application for a shop unit in Cradley.

Plans have been submitted to convert Oshenna Hair and Beauty on Windmill Hill into a micro pub.

Applicants aim to open from 11am until 11pm and the development would create two full-time jobs and up to five part-time jobs.

A statement from the architectural and planning service BeforeBricks in support of the application said: “The applicant is committed to retaining the existing external design and access arrangements, thereby preserving the character of the building and its integration within the surrounding area.

“The development is anticipated to contribute positively to the local commercial environment by providing a vibrant community hub that aligns with the spirit of the Colley Gate local centre.”
