Developers propose almost 1,000 new homes on land on edge of Staffordshire town
Three proposals have come forward for housing developments on the western edge of Stone – meaning almost 900 new homes could be built in the area if they are all given the green light.

Farmland on both sides of Eccleshall Road has been earmarked for the sites, which are proposed by three different developers.
Taylor Wimpey is putting together plans for around 140 homes on land to the south west of Marlborough Road, Walton near Stone and its public consultation coincides with one launched by Richborough Estates, which is considering up to 240 homes on land south of Eccleshall Road, to the west of an existing development.
In March it was revealed that Bloor Homes is proposing more than 500 new homes on land north of Eccleshall Road. The plans for the site east of Micklow House Farm also include a new first school, and the land is on the same side of Eccleshall Road as the new Udall Grange housing development.
Richborough Estates’ public consultation on its plans for 240 homes south of Eccleshall Road is open until May 19. A planning application has not yet been submitted to Stafford Borough Council.
A new vehicle access to the site is proposed from Eccleshall Road. There would also be a children’s play area at the centre of the site, and around 30% of the new homes would be affordable housing, according to the consultation website.
A statement on the website said: “Richborough Estates considers that the land off Eccleshall Road offers an ideal opportunity to deliver a high quality, attractive and well-integrated new neighbourhood, which forms a natural and logical extension to Stone which will provide market and affordable homes alongside the delivery of new community facilities, open space and biodiversity enhancements. An outline planning application will be submitted to Stafford Borough Council; all details except access will be approved at Reserved Matters Stage.”
