In November last year Walsall Council’s planning committee approved plans to convert 205 High Street into an eight-bedroom House of Multiple Occupation, despite a petition against it.

It was the second planning application submitted by applicant Morethan Property Ltd.

The first, submitted in 2023, proposed to demolish the bungalow and replace it with a three-storey building for seven self-contained one-bedroom apartments, but this was refused.

Planning officers refused the plans due to the proximity of the building to a nearby home, and the position of the vehicle access which could lead to unacceptable pollution to nearby properties for noise, light and fumes.

Now, Morethan Property Ltd has submitted a third application which is more akin to its first, describing the HMO plans as a ‘fall-back position’.

The latest plans involve demolishing the existing bungalow to develop a '3.5-storey' building of seven apartments, with associated parking and communal gardens.

The newest proposal has been lowered in height by one metre, to ‘harmonise’ with the adjacent site.

The proposed building has also been altered to be a 3.5-storey building, with the top floor designed to look like a roof, set back from the front and rear of the building, to limit the visual projection from the street scene below.

A decision on the latest proposal is expected in May.
