The proposals by applicant SSK Assets Limited detail 11 two-bedroom, two storey homes and four three-bedroom, three storey homes.

There will be 15 car parking spaces for residents and vehicle access will be from Navigation Street.

Historically, the brownfield site was used as a wharf for Walsall Canal, and later as a coal depot.

More recently, the site served as a parking area until it was reprofiled around 2008 to accommodate imported fill from nearby developments.

Each of the proposed houses are modular pre-fabricated units built off-site and lifted into position with a mobile crane.

The applicant has estimated the construction phase of the project will take around 43 weeks.

Each home will have a south-facing timber decked terrace, separate from the shared residents’ garden and a balcony facing onto the canal.

Proposals also include a ‘vibrant urban square’, titled Waterside Square, at the east of the site, and Canalside Gardens, a canal-side public space, at the western part of the site.
