Parish council opposes 1,050-home garden village near Bridgnorth

Tasley Parish Council said the impact that 1,050 homes and 16 hectares of business land being delivered through Tasley Garden Village will have on the environment and the local community has not been fully recognised.

The authority suggested the 500 homes which have already been allocated to be built in the area should be a priority before additional housing is considered.

The garden village is being proposed as part of Shropshire Council's Local Plan Review, which sets out where housing and business land can be built until 2038.

A consultation is currently ongoing on the plans and is set to end on February 26.

The council put forward 41 objections highlighting concerns that needed to be addressed before the plan was approved and said they remain unanswered.

Councillor Susan Howle, vice chairman of Tasley Parish Council, said: "More housing is both necessary and welcome, but the garden village proposed for Tasley is too big and the wrong side of the A458 isolating it from the rest of the community."

Councillor Howle added that a feasibility study of the road network around Bridgnorth should have been completed prior to the drafting of the local plan to establish how much excess capacity there is in the current highway system and the level of upgrade required if the new development goes ahead. This study has instead been commissioned after the plans were drawn up and the parish council said if it is carried out during lockdown, altered traffic levels would make it "fundamentally flawed".

Tasley Parish Council will be opposing the plan under the Regulation 19 Consultation procedure, which runs until February 26.
