Jobs vision revealed for former Willenhall Sewage Works site
Ambitious plans to redevelop the former Willenhall Sewage Works creating scores of jobs have been revealed.
Funding has been secured for early site work at the old sewers and Walsall’s regeneration boss revealed plans are in the pipeline for new factories and warehouses.
Planning chiefs are keen to regenerate run-down sites across the borough and see the old sewer works as a prime location to create new jobs.
Plans for the works remain in their early stages, with funding secured for ground work at the site, which would be transformed into an industrial estate.
Council bosses say it is currently too early for discussions with firms about moving in, but Walsall’s regeneration boss Adrian Andrew said it was an exciting time for the borough.
Councillor Andrew said: “We’re looking at redeveloping the sewage works with the water company in terms of delivering an employment site to create new jobs.
"Anywhere in the Black Country we need check whether the site would be suitable. It will be an employment site for industrial and commercial use.
"I’m confident something can happen there and we can get things moving.
"Walsall is open for business and we’re willing to work with businesses and companies moving forward.
“It’s an exciting time. We’re a blank canvas in Walsall and would welcome anyone with ideas and opportunities to come forward.”
It is the latest major scheme to emerge for Walsall. It was revealed last week that the council wants to boost the area around the Waterfront and train station.
A potential bidder has come forward for the former Lex car dealership site, which could provide a breakthrough for a long-awaited development of the area.
Station Street could also be redeveloped.
