Plan for 53 homes by Haden Hill Park
Developers are lining up plans to build dozens of new homes next to one of Sandwell’s biggest parks.
A mixture of 53 semi-detached and detached homes could be built by Haden Hill Park in Cradley Heath.
The new houses would go on vacant land in Cradley Heath, off Haden Cross Drive.
An outline planning application by Dunedin Haden Cross Ltd has been submitted to Sandwell Council. Julie Webb, ward councillor for Cradley Heath and Old Hill, welcomed proposals for the site and said the location is the ‘prime site’ for a proposed development of its kind.
It sits near to the Victorian park which is also home to Haden Hill House – a Victorian mansion and Tudor Hall run by Sandwell Council.
The spot has seen a number of planning permissions put in for it over previous years, including a bid from developers to put around 100 homes on the site a year ago.
An application had been previously granted subject to conditions for 41 dwellings in 2005 and renewed in 2008 and again before 2011.
An outline planning application was also submitted in 2014 and was granted permission on August 26, 2014
But no work has ever begun on any of the developments. Councillor Webb said: “My councillor colleagues and myself, we welcome any kind of investment in Cradley Heath.
"That site is a prime site, it is on a main road and it is in a good position.”
Current applicant Dunedin Haden Cross Ltd says it has combined all of its previous bids made for the site into one single application.
If approved developers would look to accommodate parking for up to 120 cars.
