Economy boss Councillor Harman Banger has quit his role for personal reasons, the council said.

He has been replaced by Councillor Steve Simkins, who was previously cabinet member for governance.

Councillor Paula Brookfield, wife of leader Ian Brookfield, has been switched to the governance brief.

She was previously scrutiny panel chair, and has been replaced in that role by Councillor Bhupinder Gakhal.

Councillor Ian Brookfield said he had acted quickly to ensure all cabinet posts remain covered during the coronavirus crisis.

No more information was provided on the reasons for Councillor Banger's departure.

He represents the East Park ward and has been a member of the council since 2011.

He was named economy boss when Councillor Brookfield became leader of the council in May 2019 and has helped oversee various projects, including the regeneration of the city centre.
