Book of condolence opened following death of Wolverhampton Council deputy leader
A book of condolence has been opened allowing people to pay their respects to Wolverhampton Council deputy leader Peter Bilson.
Councillor Bilson died aged 66 on Saturday following period of illness. He had served as a councillor since 1982 and was also a former Mayor of Wolverhampton.
Tributes poured in from senior figures in the city for the widely-respected councillor, who was also head of housing.
The city council said its social media pages had been inundated with tributes after Councillor Bilson’s death was announced.
A public book of condolence has now been opened in the foyer of the Civic Centre allowing people to pay their respects. Amongst the first to sign it were Mayor Claire Darke, council leader Ian Brookfield, opposition leader Wendy Thompson and chief executive Tim Johnson.
The Civic Centre is open Monday to Thursday from 9am to 5pm and from 9am to 4.30pm on Fridays. Funeral arrangements will be announced at a later date, the council said.
