Labour-run Wolverhampton Council came under fire from Conservatives in the city after a tweet praising Tory MPs who were sacked for voting against Boris Johnson was 'liked' by the council's Twitter account. It sparked accusations that the council was not acting impartially.

A council spokeswoman said: “We are aware of a small number of third-party tweets inappropriately liked on the @wolvescouncil Twitter account and have taken immediate steps to remove them.

"Clearly, the council’s Twitter account has to be politically impartial. We are investigating what has happened to establish the facts and will take appropriate action - early indications are that this is down to an administrative error.”
