Rocketeer Cars will launch two new versions of the Mazda MX-5 sports car this year.

The Hampshire-based company is responsible for hand-building and tuning versions of the iconic Japanese two-seater sports car while also offering clients one-off interior and exterior colours to make their cars stand out from the rest.

This year, the firm will launch the new Rocketeer Keiryo, which is a first-generation MX-5 that is claimed to be the most powerful and fastest version the company has produced.

In terms of power, the firm wants to aim for 380bhp and the car will weigh just 850kg – giving it a power-to-weight ratio of 447bhp per tonne.

The second variant will be based on the third-generation MX-5, which will come with around 304bhp. However, its name is yet to be revealed at this stage.

The manufacturer claims that a majority of future builds will come from the third-generation variant.

Currently, Rocketeer Cars offers what it calls the ‘Rocketeer MXV6’ kit on the first and second-generation MX-5s, which boosts the cars’ power up to 284bhp, while their handling and chassis setup remains the same as from the factory, to give the driver one of the best wind-in-the-hair experiences.

Further details regarding the two new models will be revealed in due course, with more information set to be released from the middle of this year.
