Emergency services have been tackling the severe fire on Firs Industrial Estate, Oldington Lane, since 11.30pm last night and remain on site this morning.

The blaze has been put out and the fire service has scaled back its operation, but fiefighters will remain at the industrial estate for most of the day monitoring the situation.

Nobody was injured in the blaze but nearby residents were asked to stay in their properties and keep their doors and windows shut.

Group Commander Mick Cadman, from Hereford Fire and Rescue Service, said: "We received the report of the fire at 11.25pm and 10 fire appliances have been used over the course of the night.

"There are chemicals on site but I would like to reassure people that all the appropriate precautions are being taken. At this time we have not identified any health issues. Air quality is being monitored in the area and should the situation change we will advise local people.

"The building where the fire started was in use at the time but it was evacuated and there are no reported casualties.

"It is likely that we will be on site for the rest of day.

"I'd like to thank local people for their support and patience while we manage this serious incident."

Officers from the Environment Agency were on site this morning monitoring the water and checking for any environmental impacts following the fire.

In the early hours of the morning a 600 metre cordon was put in place around the industrial estate, as well as the estate's main road also being closed.

However the road was reopened around 7am this morning.

The fire is not being treated as suspicious.
