Flood barriers go up in Bewdley after heavy rain causes River Severn to rise
Flood barriers have gone up in Bewdley after days of heavy rainfall caused the River Severn to rise.
The barriers were hastily put up over the weekend to protect the town after the water level rose to a point where it was dangerously close to overflowing.
Persistent rainfall has caused the Severn to swell to a point where the barriers were needed.
The Environment Agency said it had ensured Bewdley remained "open for business".
Dave Throup, Environment Agency manager for Herefordshire and Worcestershire, said: "Fantastic work Environment Agency at Bewdley to get the flood barriers up in record time.
"Many thanks to our partners and riverside businesses for their support. Bewdley remains open for business."
It came as hundreds of homes were evacuated in Lincolnshire which has been one of the worst hit areas.
Two months' rain fell there in just two days.
The rain is expected to ease off in the West Midlands for much of today (mon) and tomorrow (tue) but more heavy downpours are expected from Wednesday.
