Wolverhampton canal attack dog now in care
A dog seen beaten on CCTV on a canal towpath has been placed in the care of the RSPCA and the suspected attacker arrested.
An appeal was launched by the charity and the Express & Star after footage emerged showing the dog under attack on the Wednesbury Oak Loop canal in Bilston.
The animal, thought to be a Staffordshire-type breed, was hit and then threatened with the water below.
It was captured from CCTV cameras from a nearby house.
It happened on June 28 at 9.15pm.
Hundreds of people spoke of their disgust at the attack on social media, and the appeal was shared with thousands of users viewing it.
RSPCA spokesman Rachel Butler said: “We were made aware of the footage and a joint investigation with police is ongoing.
“The dog is now in RSPCA care.”
Wolverhampton police said a man aged 34, from Bradley, had been arrested on suspicion of an animal cruelty offence and had been released pending the RSPCA investigation.
