He couldn't be more effusive in his praise.

When the Prime Minister visited Jaguar Land Rover's Solihull plant to show his solidarity with the workers in the wake of Donald Trump's tariffs, one member of the workforce was particularly generous in his praise.

So generous, in fact, that he was filmed for a Downing Street video highlighting the Prime Minister's commitment to the workers of the West Midland car industry.

The workman, wearing a factory uniform, says: "He could have gone to London, but he came to Solihull. It's really good to meet Keir Starmer, the Prime Minister in person.

"For me that means he's taking manufacturing seriously, but I'm glad he's come today, I'm glad they've reacted quickly, and I'm really pleased that they're going to support manufacturing and the car industry. He's got to have everyone's back who's employed in manufacturing in the UK.

"I'm really glad they recognise how important manufacturing is to the West Midlands and the UK."

What the video forgot to mention was that the worker in question was also the deputy leader of Wolverhampton Council, Councillor Steve Evans, and a Labour councillor for 19 years, so it probably isn't such a huge surprise that he is a big admirer of his party leader.

The video was removed from Labour's social media feed after being picked up by the political website Guido Fawkes.

Councillor Evans and West Midlands Labour were contacted for comment.
