Traffic at standstill on M54 after crash between two vans - paramedics sent to the scene

Traffic has been at a standstill on the M54 after a crash between two vans.

The collision took place near junction 2 for Coven Heath. Paramedics, firefighters and the police rushed to the scene on the busy motorway and the incident has caused long traffic delays.

A Shropshire Fire and Rescue Service have the incident classified on its log as "road traffic collision, persons trapped".

A spokesman said: "At 5.14pm on Tuesday, June 11, SFRS Fire Control received a call reporting that a road traffic collision had taken place in Coven Heath."

Three fire engines were sent to the scene from Wellington. An operations officer was in attendance.

The AA's traffic monitoring service said at 5.30pm this evening: "All lanes stopped and stationary traffic due to obstruction on the road on M54 Eastbound after J3 A41 Newport Road (Albrighton). Just before 5.15pm all traffic was held. Prior to this lane two (of two) was closed.

"Severe delays of 25 minutes and delays increasing on M54 Eastbound between J4 A464 (Shifnal) and J2 A4510 (Wolverhampton). Average speed five mph."

The incident was first reported at around 3.50pm.

West Midlands Ambulance Service has been contacted for a comment.
