Tram services in Wolverhampton city centre were forced to a halt after a crash on the Bilston Street island, between the Royal and Wolverhampton Station.

West Midlands Police officers rushed to the scene at about 2.15pm.

The driver of the car had managed to free themselves following the incident, with the road remaining blocked through the afternoon.

A West Midlands Police spokesperson said: "We attended following a collision involving a car and two trams.

"The driver managed to get out of the vehicle, and the road remains blocked."

West Midlands Metro warned of potential delays to its services into the city centre through the day.

On X, West Midlands Metro said: "Due to an RTC trams are unable to operate between the Royal and Wolverhampton Station.

"Trams are operating between the Royal and Edgbaston Village."

By 4pm, normal service had been resumed between the Royal and Station stops.
