Dudley and Sandwell station remains closed after man dies on the tracks
A station is set to remain closed following a major incident after a man died on the tracks.
Sandwell and Dudley Railway Station will remain closed throughout the day following the incident.
Emergency services rushed to the scene following reports of a casualty on the tracks.
On arrival, paramedics discovered the body of the man, who they sadly pronounced as dead on arrival.
A spokesperson for British Transport Police said: "Officers were called to Sandwell and Dudley railway station today following reports of a casualty on the tracks.
"Paramedics also attended, but sadly a person was pronounced dead at the scene. The incident is not being treated as suspicious and a file will be prepared for the coroner."
Trains between Wolverhampton and Birmingham New Street were bought to a standstill following the incident, with lines reopening at around 9.38am.
West Midlands Railway announced that Sandwell and Dudley Station will remain closed while emergency services work at the scene, with no services calling at the station.
A spokesperson for West Midlands Ambulance Service continued: "We were called to an incident at Sandwell and Dudley Railway Station at around 7.50am.
"Two ambulances, a paramedic officer, a MERIT trauma doctor and critical care paramedic and the Trust’s Hazardous Area Response Team (HART) were sent to the scene where on arrival, crews found a male patient. Sadly, it quickly became clear that he could not be saved and was confirmed dead at the scene."
On X, West Midlands Railway said: "The line has reopened between Birmingham New Street and Wolverhampton.
"Sandwell and Dudley station will remain closed - no services will call here. Services will be subject to delays and alterations."
The incident led to large delays across lines passing Sandwell and Dudley Station.
