Life-saving heart equipment fitted at city park
Life-saving medical equipment has been installed in a Wolverhampton park, after a senior city councillor recognised that the community could benefit from emergency facilities following local events held as part of last year’s Commonwealth Games.
Councillor Craig Collingswood arranged for a new Automatic External Defibrillator (AED) to be fitted at the Northgate Lodge, located at one of the entrances to West Park.
The council’s cabinet member for environment and climate change said he felt very strongly that the park – and how well it was used by dog walkers and people exercising daily. would benefit greatly by having the equipment to hand.
Councillor Collingswood, who paid to have the life-saving kit installed at the entrance to the park, said: “I have arranged for the purchase and installation of an AED – an automatic external defibrillator at the West Park, which is within in the Park ward that I represent.
“I’ve used ward funds to pay for this essential facility – which will most definitely save lives. These funds are handed out to each councillor across the city to use in their ward to provide a boost for communities or tackle local issues.
“We get allocated ward funds in Wolverhampton and each year I’m looking to see what I can spend some of the funds on to put something back into the community I represent. I usually donate it to good causes – like food banks or community groups, or who really needs our support.
“I arranged for another one of theses difibrillators to be installed on another housing estate in the ward a few weeks ago. As I used to train people in first aid some time ago, I know how fantastic these devices are. The West Park is widely used by local people, by other Wolverhampton residents and visitors to the city, so this is an ideal location for it,” he added.
