Elderly pedestrian in hospital with 'potentially serious injuries' after collision with car in Wolverhampton city centre

At around 11am on Monday, emergency services were called to Pipers Row, Wolverhampton.

An air ambulance attended the scene, along with an ambulance, paramedic officer, MERIT trauma doctor and a critical care paramedic; the elderly woman had suffered "potentially" serious injuries according to a West Midlands Ambulance Service spokesperson.

Due to the incident, tram services were halted between Wolverhampton Station and The Royal.

A spokesperson from West Midlands Ambulance Service said: "We were called to reports of an RTC on Pipers Row in Wolverhampton at 11.05am.

"An ambulance, paramedic officer, MERIT trauma doctor and critical care paramedic and the Air Ambulance Critical Care Car from Cosford were sent to the scene where, on arrival, crews discovered a car and a pedestrian had been involved in a collision.

"The pedestrian, an elderly woman, had suffered potentially serious injuries and was treated by ambulance crews at the scene before being conveyed to New Cross Hospital, Wolverhampton for further treatment."

Normal services are now operating between Wolverhampton Station and Edgbaston Village, with the possibility of slight delays to the service.

The incident comes as there was also a medical emergency in the same area on Sunday afternoon.

Around 2pm, a medical emergency on Pipers Row caused the tram service between The Royal and Wolverhampton Station to be halted.
