The Hangar, in Pearson Street, Blakenhall, Wolverhampton, – a 17,000 sq ft music, entertainment and events establishment – was granted approval to continue trading at a behind closed doors meeting, but with the addition of a number of new conditions added to the current licence.

Wolverhampton Council’s statutory licensing sub-committee made the decision at  a closed meeting which was not open to the press or public. A full list of the conditions will be included in official local authority minutes at a later date.

Once a steel manufacturing warehouse, the venue has a maximum capacity of 870 and is open seven days a week. As well as staging live music and sports events, it can be hired by the public for weddings and parties.

Prior to the hearing, designated premises supervisor (DPS) at The Hangar, Nathan Thaker, told the Local Democracy Reporting Service (LDRS): “As a venue, we’ve always done everything we can to work with the local authority. We have only ever had two isolated incidents within five years that have been highlighted to us, and no action has ever been brought against us.

“I’m a big supporter of Wolverhampton and we work hard to help boost the night-time economy here, which is much needed. We’re a big venue and employ 150 people and bring jobs into the city. Big events venues like ours are badly needed here as they do so much to boost the local economy.”
