Ambulance crews were called to Wobaston Road in Pendeford at 4.18am. The pedestrian was found collapsed and immediately given life support at the scene before being rushed to New Cross Hospital. However, he later died at hospital.

"Despite the efforts of paramedics and medics, the man in his 30s was later pronounced dead at hospital.

"His family has been informed and they are being supported by specially trained officers at this awful time.

National Express routes services 6 and 25 were not serving Wobaston Road and Pendeford Business Park throughout the morning.

The road was closed between The Droveway and Patshull Avenue causing major disruption to motorists in the area.

Surrounding routes were also congested.
