Violet celebrates her 100th birthday
Family is the most important thing in life, according to Violet Wise who celebrated her 100th birthday with a two-day celebration at her daughter's home in Wolverhampton.
She also puts her still clear complexion down to "drinking lots of water" during her life, although she admits to enjoying the occasional glass of sherry.
The two day celebrations began with family and friends, including three children, four grandchildren and 10 great-grandchildren, visiting and a card from the Queen.
The following day she was able to catch up with more news from family and friends as the celebrations continued.
Born in Wolverhampton, during her younger days Violet enjoyed dancing and worked as a domestic assistant.
She married her first husband, Alfred Williams in 1946 in St Luke's Church in Blakenhall, and they went on to have three children, Ray, now aged 74, who lives in Wolverhampton, Leslie, aged 72, and Sylvia, now aged 68.
Sadly Alfred died 10 years after marriage but romance blossomed a second time when Violet worked as a house cleaner for Jack Wise and they married in 1984 at Wolverhampton Register Office.
They were together for 19 years until Jack died in 2003.
Violet now lives with her daughter, Sylvia Busby, in Lanesfield, Wolverhampton, and enjoys watching soap dramas on television.
She recalls that when they were young she loved taking the children out for walks and picnics.
Sylvia said: "Mum has always gone without to ensure myself and my two brothers had what we needed.
"When we were children she used to take us out for walks and picnics.
"She has been an absolutely wonderful mother and enjoys nothing more than being with the family."
