Blind date couple celebrate 50 years

Patricia Hill, born in 1948 from Blakenhall, and Edward Davies, born in 1947 from Bushbury, celebrated 50 years together on January 2.

The couple met on a blind date, which was organised by Edward’s friend Graham, who he went to college with.

Their first date was May 9, 1969, when Graham and his date picked up Edward and Patricia before heading to Bridgnorth and the MEB Club in Wolverhampton.

They hit it off and went out again to what was the Wolves Club, as Edward is a lifelong Wolverhampton Wanderers fan and season ticket holder.

After two years of courting, Patricia and Edward married on January 2, 1971, at St Luke’s Church in Blakenhall.

They have two children, Emma Edwards, born in 1974, and Simon Davies, born in 1978, and the couple now live in Penn.

Speaking about her parents’ marriage, Emma said: “When my mom first brought my dad home, it turned out that both their parents knew each other well as teenagers.

“They worked together at Villiers during the war and went to school together but had lost touch, it’s a small world.

“We were going having some sort of function at Wolves Club to celebrate the anniversary, but as year went on couldn’t happen we planned a smaller get together.

“Now due to the Tier 4 restrictions they’re by themselves as can’t visit them.

“I have organised a takeaway cream tea for them, but this is nothing compared to what we had planned.

“I think they would say their secret to a happy marriage is a sense of humour my dad plays up a bit and patience, they say in their own words they would spoil another couple.”
