The road was closed at the island on Bridgnorth Road, Compton, as gushing water flooded the road. It added to the disruption following heavy snowfall.

Properties nearby, including on The Holloway, were without water from around 11am.

Severn Trent workers arrived at the scene to get to work on fixing the leak and the company apologised for any "inconvenience".

A spokeswoman said: “We want to apologise to anyone affected by the burst pipe on The Holloway in Wolverhampton.

"Our teams are on site now and are turning valves to bring water into the area and get water supplies back on as quickly as possible.

"It’s a complicated system here and so there’s lots to do but we’re hoping the vast majority of people will be back on in the next couple of hours.

"We’re also using tankers to bring water into the area and we’re injecting water directly into the pipes to keep supplies on.

"So far over 500 properties have their water back on and please bear with us while we work to get everyone else on as soon as we can.”

It came after a power failure affecting a pumping station left homes across Wolverhampton and Sedgley temporarily without water on Sunday evening.
