Wolverhampton wedding couple 'forgotten about' under lockdown rules

A couple whose wedding was cancelled due to the coronavirus pandemic have said they feel "forgotten about" by the Government.

Charlotte Waller, age 29, and Matthew Tench, age 31, from Wolverhampton were due to get married on October 24 this year at Himley Hall in Dudley.

Analyst programmer Charlotte, who works at Aston University, had already brought her wedding dress – and the couple had booked a honeymoon to Mexico – and were devastated when they had to cancel.

They have now rearranged their big day for July next year, but are worried that Covid-19 will still be prevalent even during the summer of 2021.

Charlotte said it feels engaged couples have been forgotten about.

She said: "We had a letter from Himley Hall saying they don't know what it's going to look like next year so they won't take any money from us just yet, I just don't have positive hopes.

"I don't think we want to postpone again, whatever happens we will get married. It's getting stupid.

"We wanted to have 45 people for the ceremony and then 100 for the evening, so cutting the guest list down to 30 would have been horrendous.

"Our venue didn't give that option and I'm glad they didn't now as then it went down to 15.

"I bought my dress in January and had a fitting planned in May but then lockdown cancelled all of that.

"I felt really stressed in the beginning, and was quite upset. And when it came to the actual day of what would have been our wedding, my partner was a bit down too.

"We kept thinking what would we be doing at this time, and then on Monday we thought we'd be in Mexico now. It was a bit depressing, but we've got each other and we've got our health."

Charlotte and Matthew, a food productions worker in Telford, got engaged in April 2019 and have known each other for five years. They live in The Scotlands area of Wolverhampton with their Staffordshire Bull Terrier Bruno.

Charlotte added: "There's a lot of stuff going on, so it's not the worst thing to have happened but it is one of the things I always check for when the Government makes an announcement. But then they never really mention it. You have to find out for yourself.

"It's something people need to know, but it doesn't seem to be important. It feels we're a bit forgotten."
