The land on Shaw Road has become an eyesore since the city's iconic bowling alley burned down in 2013.

The site became a dumping ground after the remains of Strykers were cleared away and is now fenced off.

Strykers was hugely popular in Wolverhampton for decades and the devastating fire that destroyed it brought a sad end to an era.

The site of Strykers was cleared and has remained empty ever since

A rail bridge that runs over the Stafford Road nearby still bears its name in a nod to its heyday.

Now plans have been lodged to create nine business units, with car parking, potentially creating new jobs.

A design statement submitted to Wolverhampton Council with the plans said: "The development will provide business units enabling businesses to commence trading and allow other businesses to come to the site in a secure environment in which to conduct their trade.

"The new development will be able to take advantage of the existing surrounding infrastructure, services and transport links."
