Family sees Shropshire's Molly go the distance
A Shropshire nursery teacher who migrated to Cyprus has helped raise more than £1,000 for disabled children across the county.
Molly Boyle, originally from Albrighton, raised the money by completing a 5k fun run at this year’s Logicom Cyprus Marathon, in the coastal resort of Pafos.
The 23-year-old moved to Akrotiri in 2017 when her father, Jay, was posted to the Mediterranean island with the RAF.
The former Idsall School pupil, in Shifnal, was inspired to raise money for Caudwell Children, the Staffordshire charity that provides practical and emotional support to disabled children and their families, by her mother Sharon, a children’s nurse.
Sharon, 50, who previously worked at New Cross Hospital, in Wolverhampton, volunteered with Caudwell Children’s annual Destination Dreams holiday to Disney World in Florida, in 2015, 2016 and 2018.
Destination Dreams was created in 2007 to give 25 children with life limiting conditions the chance to experience a once-in-a-lifetime holiday.
Miss Boyle said: “My mum loved being part of Destination Dreams – she has such happy memories and the stories of her experiences are incredible.
“She was part of the medical team that provided 24 hour support to the children on the trip, as a number of them had extremely challenging conditions."
She raised the money with help from her aunt Helen, 48, brother Patrick, 21, who completed the half marathon and father Jay who completed the longer 10k event.
“It’s a fantastic charity that provides children with much needed equipment and experiences, so I’m asking other people to get involved in fundraising for them through one of the charity’s many fundraising challenges.
“Fundraising gives you a great sense of satisfaction and any challenge, big or small, helps the charity to provide for children and their families that are in need of support,” Miss Boyle added.
Mark Bushell, of Caudwell Children, said: “We’re incredibly grateful to Molly and her family for raising funds for Caudwell Children in this way.
“To take on any kind of running challenge in such a climate was always going to be tough, but they all made it to the finish line which is impressive."
Since the charity was founded in 2000 it has supported more than 40,000 children with at a cost of £40 million.
