The attraction is part of ambitious plans to revamp the Moon under Water pub in the city centre and create a new hotel.

The idea of a Wetherspoon museum has raised eyebrows but founder and chairman Tim Martin believes the move will be another positive addition to a 'growing city'.

He said: "I thought it would be good for Wetherspoons to have an archive as there are so many documents around. It is a devils jobs to organise them.

"It would include what documents I can find about the first pub, subsequent pubs and the people who work there as well as the history about Wetherspoons

"We thought it is very central in the country, very close to the station and it is a growing city."

As well as launching the museum, the pub group, which runs around 900 venues, is also planning a major investment into the Moon Under Water and creating a 70-bedroom hotel above the pub in the space that has lain empty for more than 30 years."
