Lounge 107: Popular Wolves matchday pub has licence suspended after guns and drugs found
A popular Wolves matchday pub has had its licence suspended after guns and drugs were discovered during a police raid.
Managers at Lounge 107, formerly the Goal Post, will now be brought before council bosses later this month when the future of the pub will be decided.
Police said two firearms and suspected Class A drugs were found during a search of the Waterloo Road pub, across the road from Molineux.
A man was arrested on suspicion of possessing a firearm following the raid on Tuesday and was subsequently released under investigation.
West Midlands Police moved to have the pub’s licence suspended due to the seriousness of the allegations.
Members of Wolverhampton’s licensing committee followed police advice and suspended the licence following a short hearing on Friday.
The full case is expected to be heard within the next four weeks.
Senior city councillor Milkinder Jaspal said the allegations against Lounge 107 were concerning and he expected tough action to be taken.
He said: “I think we have got to be concerned. The licensing committee need to consider taking strong action on the recommendation of the police. I fully support this action from the police.”
The pub has been used by Wolves fans for years due to its close proximity to the ground and is regularly packed before matches.
A West Midlands Police spokeswoman said: “A firearms warrant was executed at Lounge 107 on Waterloo Road, Whitmore Reans on Tuesday.
“Two firearms and suspected Class A drugs were recovered during a search of the premises.
“A 33-year-old man was arrested on suspicion of possession of a firearm and has been released under investigation.
“The licence for the premises has been suspended at a hearing at Wolverhampton Council pending a further full hearing within the next 28 days.”
The old Goal Post is one of the few remaining pubs immediately close to Molineux following the demise of former matchday favourites such as The Wanderer and The Feathers in recent years.
Lounge 107 looked set for the bulldozers four years ago when plans were revealed by Asda to put a petrol station on the site. The scheme was later thrown out and the petrol station eventually built opposite on the supermarket car park.
The pub could not be contacted for comment.
