The driver escaped serious injuries following the drama on Wellington Road, Bilston, on Thursday evening.

The black Renault is believed to have clipped a parked car before flipping onto its side.

Fire crews and paramedics were called to the scene but the female driver had got herself out of the vehicle before they arrived. She was said to have suffered minor injuries.

The crash, which happened at 5.40pm, left part of the busy road into Bilston blocked, causing delays in the area.

The car came to rest on its side

The car suffered major damage in the dramatic smash and its windscreen was shattered. Debris was left scattered over the road.

Eight firefighters from Wolverhampton and Bilston attended.

West Midlands Fire Service spokesman Matthew Smith said: "The incident involved a car in collision with another car and it rolled onto its side.

"One female suffered minor injuries and removed herself from the vehicle prior to our arrival. She was treated by paramedics at the scene.

"We sent two crews to the scene, one from Wolverhampton and one from Bilston. Crews made the vehicle safe."

The incident came on a day of smashes in the Black Country.

A motorcyclist was injured after crashing into a lamppost on Whitmore Hill, Wolverhampton, which saw part of the ring road closed off.

A van also ended up on its side following a nasty smash in Aldridge, Walsall.
