Schoolgirl Jasmine Forrester, 11, dies after stabbing at Wolverhampton house
An 11-year-old girl has died after a stabbing at a house in Wolverhampton, with police naming her as Jasmine Forrester.
Jasmine was found with multiple injuries including a serious head wound at an address in Kent Road on Friday morning, but died in hospital in the afternoon.
A 51-year-old suspect, who police said is related to Jasmine, has been arrested on suspicion of murder.
Officers were called to the end-terrace house just before 1am after reports of a disturbance.
Jasmine was left in a critical condition, but lost her fight for life in hospital. A post-mortem is due to be held on Sunday.
The suspect remains in hospital being treated for a minor injury, a cut hand.
A West Midlands Police spokesman said: "The house has been cordoned off to preserve the scene and to allow for forensic experts to conduct a thorough examination.
"We are not looking for anyone else in connection with the incident."
A woman in her 80s, who is a relative of Jasmine, suffered a suspected dislocated shoulder during the incident and has been treated in hospital.
The woman is believed to be the girl's grandmother, who ran out into the street to get help in the early hours of the morning
One neighbour, who did not want to be named, said she saw the woman wearing a dressing gown run into the street as others tried to calm her down before she was taken to hospital.
A local shopkeeper, 67-year-old Natu Patel, added: "I see the little girl everyday, she is like a daughter to me.
“She loves coming in to see us and makes us things little pictures to keep in the shop.
Deeply shocked
“I just can’t believe it. Why her? She is just so young.
“We have only just found out and we are deeply shocked.”
Forensic investigators remain at the house tonight.
