Rebecca Bryant, chief fire officer of Staffordshire Fire and Rescue Service, is the first woman to have progressed to the top job at a UK fire service.

She received the award at a graduation ceremony at Wolverhampton’s Grand Theatre today (tues).

The Honorary Doctor of Professional Practice was awarded in recognition of Rebecca’s 'contribution and achievements in the fire and rescue service and acting as an inspirational leader in the field'.

She said: “I am completely overwhelmed to receive such an honour, this was certainly never something that I thought would happen and to have been recognised for my efforts throughout my career is a truly humbling experience."

Rebecca Bryant was appointed CFO/chief executive at Staffordshire Fire and Rescue Service in April last year.

The University of Wolverhampton awards honorary degrees to people who have made a significant contribution to their field of expertise.
